THE IDEA OF FOUNDING A UNIVERSITY IN ALANYA AND THE FOUNDATION OF ALANYA UNIVERSITY

Hamdullah Emin Pasha and Haremi Hatice Tahire Hanım Foundation (founded in 1932), who founded Private Hamdullah Emin Pasha College in 1978, started their attempts to establish Alanya's first university as an education foundation in 2007. In the light of the consensus that emerged from the stakeholder meeting held on March 14, 2008, the feasibility report necessary for the establishment of a foundation university in Alanya was prepared.

Official Application and Establishment Process

Our Founding Foundation made its first official application to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) with the number 148/335 on 23 December 2008 by presenting the feasibility report prepared on 26 August 2009 and other required undertakings and documents.

The University Board of Trustees of Alanya HEP University was formed by the Founding Foundation in 2009 as stipulated by the law, and the total number of members was determined as 15 with the newly added members in 2010. At the meeting of the founding board of trustees on 4 December 2010, developments in the physical, administrative, financial and administrative structuring of the University were discussed and the Board of Trustees formed working groups on these issues.

The draft of the Main Regulation of Alanya HEP University was accepted after being discussed by the Founding Board of Trustees, approved by YÖK and published in the Official Gazette dated 18 July 2011 and entered into force.

Laying the Foundation of the Campus

After the physical structuring criteria were determined, architectural projects of academic buildings were prepared on the land in Alanya Cikcilli District, which was allocated to the University.

After the architectural projects were completed and approved by the Board of Trustees, the foundation of Alanya HEP University was laid with a crowded ceremony attended by academic and administrative managers and the people of Alanya.

The construction work of the first building of our university in Nimet and Abdurrahman Alaettinoğlu Campus, which was financed entirely by donations from benefactors from Alanya, was completed in December 2013. In January 2014, academic and administrative administrators and faculty members settled in their offices and education and training preparations were completed.

In the 2014-2015 academic year, when educational activities were started at our university, it was planned to admit students to three departments in two faculties, Architecture in the Faculty of Art and Design; domestic and international students were enrolled in the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Management in the Faculty of Tourism. In this process, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, which is the state university of Alanya, was established and started to operate in accordance with the law numbered 29335 dated 23.04.2015 after our university started education.

The Department of Architecture, operating under the Faculty of Art and Design of our university, continued its education and training activities within the Faculty of Architecture with the establishment of the Faculty of Architecture in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 14.03.2016 and numbered 2016/8700. With the permission of the General Assembly of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated 19.04.2018, the second Architecture Undergraduate Program, which provides education in Turkish, started to accept students at the relevant faculty.

In line with the philosophy of being open to technological innovations, which is among the founding principles of our university, the second Open and Distance Learning Research and Application Center in Turkey was established in line with the decision of the General Assembly of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated 10.08.2016. Thus, the foundations of the strong distance learning infrastructure that our university has today were laid.

In the "Non-Profit Organizations" category of the "2015 Innovative Technologies Financial Support Program", the project named "Development of GE Studies for the Advanced Product Added Value / Food Safety Enhancing AR for Food Businesses in and Around Alanya” with reference number TR61/15/ARGEK/0005 was presented to the Western Mediterranean Development Agency (BAKA) by our university and it was entitled to be supported with a grant rate of 80%.
